Originally referred to as eternity bracelets or just diamond line bracelets, the tennis bracelet features a row (or multiple rows) of diamonds that encircle the wrist. So where did the term "tennis bracelet" come from? The term became popularized after tennis player Chris Evert once stopped a match to search for a diamond bracelet, which she had been wearing while playing, after the clasp broke and the bracelet flew off her hand. The incident, and the fact that wearing a diamond bracelet was so rare during playing tennis, caused the name to stick to this very day.
